Message from the Head
The Department of Economics at the University of Macau is a growing academic unit and renowned for its dedication to teaching and research in economics. The department offers a wide range of courses leading to B.Soc.Sc, M.Soc.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees with about 300 undergraduate students and 80 postgraduate students. All our faculty members obtained PhD degrees from internationally renowned universities, and many of our faculty members previously held tenured positions at internationally reputable universities, such as the University of Liverpool, University of Nottingham and University of York.
Our faculty members actively engage in research with particular focus on policy-relevant areas (e.g., macroeconomic policy, applied microeconomic theory, public economics, applied econometrics, and economic growth) and have published in internationally reputable journals (such as the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Canadian Journal of Economics, Economic Theory, Economica, European Economic Review, Games and Economic Behavior, International Economic Review, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Journal of Business & Economic Statistics, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Journal of Economic Growth, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Economics & Management Strategy, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Mathematical Economics, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Population Economics, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Urban Economics, Management Science, Review of Economic Dynamics, and Theoretical Economics). Our aspiration is to become one of the top economics departments in the Greater China region.
