Dr. Allen VONG, UM Macao Fellow in Social Sciences, has been invited as Young Economist among 427 young scholars in economic sciences worldwide to attend the 7th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting on Economic Sciences. From 23 August, 2022 through 27 August, 2022, the participants will exchange ideas and experiences with each other and with the Laureates of the Sveriges Riksbank’s Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. 19 of these laureates have confirmed their participation so far. FSS Academic Staff Awards Ceremony of 2021/2022 was held earlier at FSS Academic Council Meeting this week. Five professors of FSS were awarded in the areas of teaching, research, service and community service, while another young professor was awarded Emerging Scholar. The Economics of Energy Innovation and System Transition (EEIST) consortium recently launched their flagship report entitled "THE NEW ECONOMICS OF INNOVATION AND TRANSITION: EVALUATING OPPORTUNITIES AND RISKS" at COP26. Meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement requires unprecedented, policy-led transformations in multiple technologies and sectors. The greatest successes achieved so far in the low carbon transition happened in ways that few people expected, using approaches that economic analysis generally did not recommend. To better assess the new opportunities brought by new energy technologies and the risks of inaction, the report proposes Risk-Opportunity Analysis to inform policy-making to accelerate transformational innovation.
